Concord University Project Completion Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Concord University Project Completion Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

ATHENS, W.Va. – A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, to celebrate the completion of the LED Energy Lighting Project at Concord University. The program will begin at 1 p.m. in University Point’s Pais Fellowship Hall.

The project has been completed in partnership with Helios Energy, a Nashville, TN based energy consulting company. The campus-wide LED lighting retrofit project was implemented to eliminate 20,000 linear fluorescent and 4,700 CFL lamps. The goal was to not only reduce the energy consumption for lighting by more than 65 percent annually but also eliminate the cost of replacing the antiquated fluorescent lamps and ballast that contain Mercury, PCBs and other elements that are harmful to the environment.

Along with the potential benefits of reducing energy consumption and eliminating maintenance expenses at Concord, the LED lighting retrofit project was also positive economically for the area as local labor and electrical contractors were utilized and local sourcing of materials incorporated when possible.

The project has been a campus wide effort involving the University’s administration, physical plant personnel, residence hall staff and others.

President Kendra Boggess and Chris Nelson, Helios Energy™ CEO, will offer remarks during the ceremony.

Mr. Nelson has more than 30 years of professional leadership experience. As the CEO of Helios Energy, he is responsible for the overall management of the company. He leads the development of all projects including the company’s current commercial to utility-scale solar investments in the South Pacific, Caribbean, and the US.

Chris is a retired United States Marine having served for more than 21 years in various intelligence and signal intelligence assignments across the globe. Following his military career, he spent 12 years in senior sales leadership, training leadership and coaching roles with three different global Fortune 500 companies in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and financial services industries.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Citadel and a Master’s in Education degree in Adult Education from Montana State University. Chris holds the Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) and Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) designations and is widely recognized as an authority in human performance improvement, sales training and sales coaching.

A reception will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony along with tours of the new lighting.
