Advice To Your 13 Year Old Self: “Just do your best. Also, most things won’t matter in 5 years.”

Justin Wills loves the feeling of being productive.

“Working has always been a great way to feel like I’ve accomplished something for the day. I’m especially motivated to work since I’m able to work in the energy sector, a field that I’ve been fascinated by for years.”

A post-graduation move to Nashville, a quick internet search for “solar,” and some luck led Justin to his role at Helios.

“Throughout college I became obsessed with energy, and especially renewable energy, so I knew that I wanted to find a job in this sector. I ended up leaving a message at [Helio’s] main line telling them who I was and what I was capable of.”

Justin is grateful that his message was noticed, and was further drawn in by the friendliness and values of Helios Energy. As a new-hire at a constantly adapting company, he has his hand in many different aspects of Helios. On a typical day, he will assist teams with designing and solutioning solar and lighting projects, and then hunt for new business. Additionally, he’s helping to organize and streamline development processes to make the company better for each project. Being able to participate in the technical side of projects and the business side is helping Justin expand his knowledge base.

Justin finds designing a unique solar solution to fit the needs of each client/site to be very enjoyable work.

“As an overly logical person, I struggle to be creative in a traditional sense, but each solar project gives me a set of building blocks with which to craft a creative solution.”

Over his years working with small companies, Justin forged relationships with managers and executives. He now leans on all he learned about the challenges the leadership within those companies faced in order to adapt his contributions to Helios. He is able to put himself in the shoes of the company’s leaders in order to better himself as an employee.

Justin always knew that he belonged at the intersection of the environment and technology. He found that energy was a realm in which he could contribute to an increase in efficiency and access while decreasing environmental degradation. At Helios, he discovered a company with strong, admirable values radiating from each member. He is honored to work in a place where everyone is compelled by a purpose greater than financial success, as seen through the determined worked ethic across the team.
